The No 1 quality we want from our civic leaders…

Today’s Illawarra Mercury has a two page spread on the September council elections in Wollongong and Shellharbour.  One of the elements of the article includes reflections on what five community leaders and notables consider being the No 1 quality we want from our civic leaders.

Given that most of the reflections printed come from Wollongongians I thought I would seek more of a  local and broad based response to that same question.

So here is your chance; in the comments  tab below briefly tell us what you believe to be the No 1  quality that you will be looking for in a councillor for Shellharbour.

I look forward to reading your responses.   Also, feel free to share the link to this page (and this blog) to as many others in Shellharbour as you have contact with.  The more the merrier I reckon.  Use the social media tabs  at the bottom of the post  when you click on the ‘comments’ option.  It is that easy to  share it on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Transparency, as used in the humanities and in a social context more generally, implies openness, communication, and accountability. It is a metaphorical extension of the meaning a “transparent” object is one that can be seen through. Transparent procedures include open meetings, financial disclosure statements, freedom of information legislation, budgetary review, audits, etc.

A heart for the Community first and foremost. This is a quality I already know you possess in the love you have for Shellharbour and the compassion and love you give to the people you come into contact with regardless of race, social standing or religion.

I too am delighted to hear you are running for Election as well Brian. I know you will give 100% of yourself and your honesty, integrity and yes also transparency; will stand you in good stead.

The fact that you have decided to take on such an arduous task and stand for election comes as no surprise to me and is totally laudable. I wish you all the very best and you have my vote.
